Obituary for Iacovos Iacovou

IACOVOU
Iacovos (Jack), age 72 of Minneapolis died on December 11, 2014. Survived by his wife Joanna (Anna); son Neophytos (Danny); daughter Irene; son-in-law David; grand-daughters Chloe, Eleni; and sister Sofia. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Originally from Cyprus, Iacovos immigrated to NYC in 1969 and relocated to Minneapolis 25 years ago where he continued his professional career as chef and restauranteur; most notably as chef/owner of Myconos Greek Restaurant. As a younger man, in Cyprus, he fought patriotically for liberation against British occupation, against Turkish invasion, and against the proliferation of Stalinist Communism. His politics were pro-union with Greece, and pro-American. In America, patriotism for his newly adopted country continued, honoring requests to serve. Jack and Anna were married in 1969. Anna had to be the mind of the family so Jack could be the heart of the family - and what a heart it was, it could only come from a crazy loving Greek who celebrated life at every opportunity. Everyone who came in contact with Jack was invited into his family for some food, some drink, music, dance, and laughs. Jack and Anna shared a remarkable friendship and love for one another. In his later years he would often turn to her and say, "With our ups and with our downs, it's been a wonderful life." His second collection of poetry will be published posthumously. Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy and Immortal, have mercy on your servant Iacovos. Funeral services at ST. MARY’S GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH 3450 Irving S. Wednesday at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior. Interment Lakewood Cemetery.
