Obituary for James W. Leaf

James W. Leaf
Age 81 of Maple Grove, passed to the eternal golf course in the sky on May 26, 2015. Be assured, he has the first tee time. He was a lucky man in every sense of the word. He putted out after a 14-year journey with cancer. Preceded in death by son, Dan and brother, Richard. Survived by wife Sue, known to Jim “as the best decision I ever made,” as well as his children, Patricia (Paul Runquist), Mike, Cory (Theresa), William (Betsy Maloney Leaf), and Jack, his dog and sometimes caddy. His grandchildren include Christopher, Hannah, Kelsey, Courtney, Nick, Charlie, Trevor, Zach, Sawyer and Skyler. Jim will be missed by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and fellow golfers at Rush Creek Golf Course in Maple Grove, MN and McCormick Ranch Golf Course in Scottsdale, AZ.

He was a 40-year employee of the Soo Line Railroad, an avid golfer, and reader. He proudly served his country as an MP in the army. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and you could always pick him out of a crowd from his distinctive voice and laugh.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH (8701 36th Ave. N., New Hope) Friday, May 29, 2015 at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service and reception to follow. Golf attire is appropriate.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you frame each day with the attributes Jim lived by: Honesty, Openness and Willingness. Jim leaves his family with grateful hearts, warm memories, and a whole lot of golf paraphernalia they have no idea what to do with. His last advice to a grandson was, “Life is hard. Have fun.” True dat.
