Obituary for Donna Fay Benjamin (Jones)

Donna Fay (Jones) Benjamin from Blaine, MN quietly passed away surrounded by family on January 24, 2016. She went home to her Savior, her parents (Jerold and Loretta Riester Jones), her husband (Peter Benjamin), her brother-in-law (Pat Flanaghan), her brother (Jerold Jones) and son (Todd Benjamin) in heaven.
Donna Fay Jones was born on January 23, 1940 in Wabasha, MN to Jerold and Loretta Riester Jones. She grew up with her two brothers Jerold Jones (Darlene Schumacher) and William Jones (Marianne Tvedt) and two sisters Marietta Jones Flanaghan (Patrick) and Jane Jones Lewandowski (Thomas). She graduated from Wabasha High School in 1958.

Donna had a good friend, Nancy Benjamin Komro Carothers, who introduced her to her brother, Peter. Donna was married to Peter Paul Benjamin on April 25, 1959. Donna and Peter had three kids (Bryan Peter Benjamin, Todd Allen Benjamin and Gail Charlene Benjamin Hiatt). Peter was in the Air Force until 1977. While in the Air Force, the Benjamins lived in Peru, IN, Alamogordo, NM, Las Vegas, NV, and Duluth, MN. After retiring from the Air Force, they lived in Durand, WI and Omaha, NE. Peter and Donna both worked for Mutual of Omaha.
After retiring in 2001, Donna moved to Blaine, MN. She worked part-time in the Target pharmacy and volunteered at DaVinci Academy (where everyone called her “Grandma”). She made countless friends including Ted Coles, Barb and Jerry Palmer, Joe Ramirez and LeAnne Osell. She bowled at Ham Lake Lanes, belonged to the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and travelled widely. She went to Hawaii many times with extended family, went to California, Arizona, and Nevada with her brothers and sisters, went to Europe several times with friends and family visiting England, Wales, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Slovakia, France, Austria, Poland and Italy.

Donna is survived by her son Bryan (Christine Arater), her daughter-in-law Linda Lehmkuhl Benjamin, and her daughter Gail Hiatt (Doug), 10 grandchildren (Casey Benjamin, Cortney Benjamin, Kyle Benjamin, Kaitlyn Benjamin, Andrew Benjamin, Amalie Benjamin, Peter Benjamin, Nathaniel Hiatt, Elijah Hiatt and Elizabeth Hiatt) and 4 great grandchildren (Reese, Macie, SammyRae, and Aspen Benjamin). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Donna had a good life and will be greatly missed. There will be a memorial at the Kozlak & Radulovich Funeral Chapel, 1385 107th Ave NE, Blaine, MN 55434, on February 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. for visitation and a memorial starting at 3:00 p.m. In July, there will be a celebration at the Jones Reunion in Wabasha, MN where she will be laid to rest with Peter.
