Obituary for Agnes Mary Monahan

Agnes Mary Monahan
Agnes Mary Monahan (nee Schmidt), age 95, of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, died September 16, 2016 at Trinity Care Center in Farmington, Minnesota.

Agnes was born December 13, 1920 in Morgan, Minnesota. She spent most of her life living in the rural Morgan and Redwood Falls area. She enjoyed her youth living in a large family of eight brothers and one sister. Agnes attended St. Michael’s Catholic school in Morgan and enjoyed singing in the choir and playing outside.

In September 1945, she married Lester Monahan. They spent their life together living on several farms and were blessed with four children. While living on the farm, she enjoyed tending to large gardens of flowers and vegetables, walking in the summer evenings, visiting neighbors and relatives, and playing cards. Agnes enjoyed playing cribbage, reading and putting together puzzles. She was a long time member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church of Redwood Falls, where she participated in the Alter Society. She had lifelong girlfriends who brought her much happiness and comfort. While life brought some tragedies to her family it also brought many joys.

After a stroke in 2013, Agnes moved to Trinity Care Center in Farmington, MN where she could be near her two surviving daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. At Trinity, she was sweet and sociable with everyone and enjoyed the daily ice-cream treats, playing Bingo, winning Beanie Baby prizes and being wheeled outside into the garden to sit in the sunshine.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharleen Neisius of Eagan, MN and Mary Kaye Monahan (Robert) of Minneapolis, MN, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two brothers, lifetime friends, Ursula and Carol. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Monahan, daughter Barbara, son David, her parents, seven of her siblings and many other relatives.

Services are scheduled for Friday, September 23 from 1-3 pm at Kozlak Radulovich Funeral Chapels at 1918 University Avenue N.E., Minneapolis. Father Al Backmann will lead the prayers. Interment will be at Saint Catherine's Catholic Cemetery in Redwood Falls, MN at a later date. Condolences can be sent in care of Agnes Monahan to 4856 Dodd Rd, Eagan, MN 55123.
