Obituary for Mary Gaydos

Mary Gaydos (Jurichko) age 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 4th, 2017 at Maurice on the Commons, Eagan MN. Mary was also under the care of the staff of Brighton Hospice.

She was born on November 23rd, 1919 in Minneapolis to Mary and John Jurichko. She was the only daughter of five children. Mary grew up in Northeast Minneapolis and attended Edison High School graduating in 1938.

In 1948 Mary married her high school sweetheart Paul Gaydos in Minneapolis, MN. They made their home for many years in Northeast Minneapolis. They had three daughters: Cheryl Anne Morse (Tim), Lynn Marie Barnes and Jill Suzanne Gaydos. Their life was a whirlwind of activity involving family, friends, travel and their participation in their church. Mary was regarded as a proud and caring mother, a loving wife, a talented cook, gracious entertainer and adventuresome travel partner. Much of Mary and Paul’s energy was reserved for their church, St. Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral. They were involved in many church organizations and activities and were considered pillars of the church by many. Mary and Paul spent 33 years in marriage until his death in March of 1981.

Her parents, loving husband Paul and brothers Steve, Marty, Peter and Paul Jurichko, preceded Mary in death. She is survived by her three daughters, four grandchildren: Kristy Herzak (Danny) of Cleveland, Erik Morse (Katie) of Eagan, Brandon Barnes (Neeka) of Bloomington and Chase Barnes of Las Vegas. Three great grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

Services for Mary will be held on noon, Friday January 6th at ST. MARY’S ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL (1710 5th Street NE, Minneapolis MN). A one-hour visitation will precede the service. Interment will follow the service at St. Mary’s Orthodox Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials to the St. Mary’s Cathedral Endowment fund in Mary’s honor are preferred.
