Obituary for Joseph Thomas Siwek

SIWEK, Joseph T. age 84 of NE Mpls., passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on April 1st, 2017. Preceded in death by wife, Judith A. (Mertz) Siwek; son, “Joey”; grandson, Daniel Whisney; parents, Joseph & Frances Siwek. Survived by children, Patricia S. (Mike) Murzyn, Lynda (John) Whisney, Sharie (George) Young, Mary (Doug) Kramasz, Dave (Lisa) Siwek, Thomas (Jan) Siwek, Kenneth Siwek (fiancée’, June); grandchildren, Michelle, JoAnn, Michael, Brenna, Brian, Jason, Beth, Abby, Katie, David, Jessica, Sammy, Mandi, Julian, Alex, Josh, Tommy, Emily, Chelsey, Tiffany, Zac, Danielle and their spouses; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, MaryAnn Anderson & Lorraine Siwek; sisters-in-law, June Bjork & Helen Mertz; many other relatives & friends.
 
Joe was the owner & president of Siwek Lumber & Millwork, Inc., established in 1933. He was born in NE Minneapolis; married Judy in 1952 and they raised eight children. He was a successful businessman, top-notch negotiator, great leader, innovator & mentor. He was an independent thinker and a man with his own agenda. First, and foremost, he was a dedicated husband, father & grandfather.
 
Joe was a lifetime member & supporter of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a benefactor to many people & charities. He was a member of Hoo-Hoo International (Lumberman’s Fraternity), part-time farmer and avid collector & restorer of antique farm equipment, wrenches, padlocks, license plates & toys.
 
Visitation 4:30 – 8 PM Thursday, April 6th, 2017 at KOZLAK-RADULOVICH CHAPEL (1918 University Av. NE) with a Prayer Service at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Friday, April 7th, 2017 at CHURCH OF THE HOLY CROSS (17th Av. NE & University Ave.)  with visitation / no reviewal one hour prior. Interment Gethsemane Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Holy Cross Church or St. John Paul II Catholic School.
