ZURBEY, ANDY

Born Nov. 12, 1934, died Sept. 15, 2017. Preceded in death by parents, Michael & Anastasia; 8 brothers & 4 sisters. Survived by wife, Phyllis; brother, Paul Zurbey; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law; many nieces & nephews. Andy was a man who loved people and entertaining them on his concertina. He was an avid sports fan and player, enjoying golf, baseball & football, especially the Gophers. Andy & Phyllis loved to travel and took trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, Caribbean Cruises & Canada. In 1979, they bought a bar in Nordeast Mpls. "Zurbey's Bar" which they enjoyed for 19 years. He was proud to have “match made” 30-40 marriages over those 19 years! After retiring, Andy started to put his love for Polka Music into action by playing his concertina for parties and other playing gigs. He teamed up with his adopted son, Craig Ebel and started playing Polish music on Thursdays at Marino’s restaurant. He was also involved in the Eastside Old Timers, The Goldbrick’s and The Midwest Polka Association. Visitation at KOZLAK-RADULOVICH CHAPEL (1918 University Ave. NE) Wednesday from 4-8 PM with Vigil Prayers (Parastas) at 5 PM. Funeral service at ST. MARY’S ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL (17th Ave. NE & 5th St.) Thursday at 11:30 AM with visitation one hour prior. Interment St. Mary’s Orthodox Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
