Obituary for Helen D Kozlak (Dunne)

Kozlak, Helen D. of the Twin Cities. From her birth in 1924 to her passing into the hands of the Lord on September 22, 2017, this remarkable lady indelibly touched the lives of everyone she met. Her words were kind and reassuring, but her life is best reflected in her values and actions. Hard work, respect, commitment, resilience and caring were reflected throughout her life – with her three sisters and parents, as a student at Milroy High School, Mankato Teachers College and St. Catherine’s University, a teacher in a one room grade school, a business professional at General Mills and Dorsey Whitney, a mother to 6, grandmother to 9 and great grandmother to 7, a working partner with her husband Joe, a widow and single-mom at a vulnerable time, a caregiver to her mother and sister, an active parishioner at St. Austin’s and Good Shepherd, a friend to hundreds. These values and her faith in the Lord are the rock on which her life and legacy is built. Few have lived their lives on such solid ground.

Helen is survived by sons, and the daughters they brought home, Michael (Laurie), Daniel (Corrine), Thomas (Anne), Joel (Jane), Nickolas (Jodee); 9 Grandchildren, Jennifer (Terry) Zinn, Andrea (Mike) Anderson, Callie Kozlak, Dan (Erin) Kozlak, Scott (Nikki) Kozlak, Trish Kozlak, Joe (Margaux) Kozlak, Zach Kozlak and Nicole Kozlak; 7 Great Grandchildren, Porter, Mason, Beckett, Spencer, Brady, Palmer and Quinn; sister, Irene Garry and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Agnes Dunne, husband Joseph Jr., son James and sisters Florence Mase and Hazel Dunne.

A celebration of Helen’s life and the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday September 28, 2017 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 145 Jersey Avenue So. Golden Valley, MN with visitation starting at 9:00 AM. Private burial at Ft. Snelling. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to St. Catherine University or St. Thomas Academy.
