Maria, age 93, of Mpls. After a difficult year with heart failure, Mom died October 16, 2017. She was born September 20, 1924 into a family of four sisters and two brothers, all but one sister preceded her in death. She is also preceded by husband, Nick and grandson: Richard Gittelson. She is survived by daughter: Sally (Gene) Gittelson, grandson: Michael Gittelson who was a loving and primary caregiver, son: Ray (Cher) Matniuk, grandson: David (Jackie) Martyniuk and, great-grandson: Jacob Martyniuk. Also, grandson: Daniel Martyniuk, one sister: Kcenya and extended family in Seattle and Ukraine. She had a challenging life but rose to all occasions. She was taken by the Nazis at the age of 17 to Austria to work as a slave during WW II. She was a single Mom that could not speak the language of the new country she was in at that time. She was married three times. The last was the best. Not highly educated, but believe she knew how to do everything. She had gardens and lake homes to enjoy. She had a long full life and had the opportunity to say good-bye to her family. Visitation at KOZLAK-RADULOVICH CHAPEL 1918 University Ave. NE Friday from 6 to 7 PM with Panachyda Service at 7 PM. Funeral service at ST. MICHAEL AND ST. GEORGE UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH 505 NE 4TH St. Saturday at 1 PM. Interment St. Mary’s Orthodox Cemetery.
