Obituary for MaryLou Nancy Enberg (Jacobson)

ENBERG
MaryLou Nancy, age 81 of Blaine, Minnesota was born on January 16, 1936, and entered eternal life on October 15, 2017. Preceded in death by parents Matilda & Lawrence, husband (Paul) & grandchild (Angel). Survived by children, Paul (Denise), Kevin (Tina); grandchildren, Paul, Marie & Birgen; brother Richard; many nieces, nephews, relatives & many friends.

MaryLou was born and raised in Superior Wisconsin. She loved music and sang at her high school frequently. She is the daughter of Swedish and Norwegian parents. She was very found of her Aunts and Uncles with whom she visited with frequently. She spent a short time during WII living in California. She recounted tales of pulling shades at night and having blackened out car headlights so they would not be vulnerable during an air raid. She said that frightened her as a child. She enjoyed her parents love of flowers and the beautiful smelling rose hedges they had at their house. She enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of Lake Superior with all their parks and scenery. She enjoyed family picnics to Pattison Park in WI and Jay Cooke State Park and picking the berries there to eat with cream and sugar. Her family would go for long drives along the scenic north shore all the way up to Hovland near the Canadian border where her Grandfather had homesteaded near a state park when he immigrated from Sweden. After high school MaryLou moved to Minneapolis and lived with her close girlfriends, Kay and Louis. She became a secretary at a high school. She met her husband Paul at the Odd Fellows Club during a dance. She was a good sport and she spent her honeymoon in the BWCA camping and fishing. They moved to Blaine in 1962 to a community built by Vern Donay where MaryLou lived the rest of her life. The community was nice and they had a new school and a community center with a swimming pool which her children enjoyed. One time MaryLou thought her husband Paul had left because he was gone for hours getting groceries. Upon his return, he said the closest grocery store he could find was in Fridley several miles away.

MaryLou eventually worked her way up from a secretary to an Underwriter and even took classes so she could get equal pay for equal work. She enjoyed taking summer trips with her family and would rent a new tent trailer every year to travel the country. The family traveled to most of the states out west and most of the National Parks. MaryLou gave up navigating after their son, upon looking at the map, said "I think we are in the wrong state." MaryLou gave her husband and family a scare on one of their trips and declined to agree to pay a bogus traffic ticket and threaten to spend the night in jail in Murdo, South Dakota because she new she was right.

MaryLou enjoyed adventure and loved taking a hot air ballon ride. She even held large snakes at Reptile Gardens in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Her favorite trip was going to Hawaii and seeing all the beautiful scenery and flowers with her husband Paul. She enjoyed her grandchildren and attending their performances and sporting events. She loved showing pictures of her grandchildren to friends and family. She was very proud of all of them. She loved animals and especially her pets. She would lovingly care for son’s, neighbor's and families pets when they needed someone to look after them. She also helped many individuals when they needed someone to confide in or were seeking guidance and reassurance. She was a caring mother and grandmother who loved her children and grandchildren very much. She enjoyed her friends and the friendships she had with them. For MaryLou, family was first and foremost. She was a faithful Christian and loved singing hymns.

MaryLou fought a three month battle with pancreatic cancer. Up until her last good day, she was up vacuuming her house because she wanted it to look nice. She was also caught washing her hair so she was ready for her Doctor appointment the next day. The next day she got up and was ready to go, she had curled her hair, put on makeup and got dressed and looked beautiful.

A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and medical teams of the U of MN Medical Center & Hospital, Fairview Hospice and all the staff at St. Therese at St. Odilia, friends, neighbors and the entire St. Odilia community that have supported her and her family during her courageous battle. God bless you all.
Funeral service at Kozlak-Radulovich Blaine Chapel (107th Ave NE. & Hwy. 65) on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 10 am. Visitation one hour prior. Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery immediately following service.
