Obituary for Matthew Charles Johnson Jr.

Matthew Charles Johnson, Jr.

Born April 3, 1985 in Edina, Minnesota, the eldest of five. He will be forever missed by his mom, Dawn Jelacic Johnson; dad and step-mother, Matthew and Stephanie Johnson; siblings, Ben Johnson, Phoebe Jelacic, Hannah Johnson, and Chloe Johnson; grandparents, Steven and Eleanor Jelacic and so many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Iver and Marybelle Johnson, and uncle, Paul Schulz.

Matt was raised in Coon Rapids and Fridley, also spending time in Arizona. He attended grade school at Prince of Peace in Spring Lake Park, MN, graduated from Spring Lake Park High School in 2003 and went on to attend Anoka Ramsey and Minneapolis Community and Technical College. He worked at Menard’s, Abbey Carpet, and most recently in the café at Barnes and Noble.

Matt was a prodigious sketch artist, beautiful writer, and a persuasive (albeit stubborn) arguer. He was quick witted, with an endearingly confrontational personality and an uncanny ability to make others laugh (and cry). He always hoped that others would be able to experience the joy and happiness that often eluded him. He had a kind heart for others and was loved and supported by his family and friends. His life ended without him fully knowing and appreciating the profound love that all those he touched had for him.

A Memorial service will be held at Kozlak-Radulovich Blaine Chapel (107th Ave. NE & Hwy. 65) Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 3 pm with visitation beginning at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you give a donation to your favorite charity in Matt’s name.
