Obituary for James Michael Brown

James Michael Brown Sr., 78, went peacefully in his sleep May 19th after saying goodnight to loved ones. His battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis has ended, allowing him to take his first breath in heaven.

Born in Duluth, Minnesota on 12/28/38 to Josephine and Ralph Brown, he met his wife Jan on a blind date & was married 3/15/58. They quickly began their family & had 3 children. In 1960 he moved his family to Minneapolis to expand the Musicland business.

He was a true entrepreneur: he brought consumer electronics from Japan & obtained patents in the automotive industry. Jim & Jan were world travelers throughout his career. Later in life, he was a carpenter: he built the family quack shack, updated family homes & had a passion for woodcarving. He loved playing cards, fishing, hunting & golfing. Above all, he loved spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Jan, his children & their spouses: Jeff & Lori Brown (Brooklyn Park), Jim & Lori Brown (Wayzata), and Lisa & Rob Alberino (San Jose), his awesome grandchildren James (Fiancée Hannah), Jessica, Jordan, Angelina & Stella, his sister Mary McCarty (Duluth), brother Ralph Brown (White Bear Lake), brother in law Bob Rich (wife Gloria), and many nieces, nephews & friends. He was preceded in death by his parents & brother, Jerry.

A Celebration of Life will be held at KOZLAK-RADULOVICH MAPLE GROVE CHAPEL (13745 Reimer Dr.) on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 with prayer service at 11:45 AM, visitation beginning at 10 AM and reception to follow.

Memorials Preferred to the University of Minnesota Foundation for IPF Research Fund#20687, PO BOX 860266, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55486.
