Under the Old Oak Tree

Not what you think.  Jo, Paul, Paul Jr and Bill were visiting us out at the lake.  Times were different and the kids were allowed to roam free to discovery nature while the grown-ups had a ‘few' beers.  So we kids did the roaming that we were expected to do.   Some distance from the main house there was a huge oak tree nestled into a wide hole that had been created around it by equipment grading a dirt road to the new cabin area.  We slid down the sides of the embankment to the base of tree.  At the bottom of the tree much to our surprise (and delight) water had accumulated.  We sunk in up to our ankles.  Since we were already wet, we thought...well, why not get a little wetter, which ultimately steeped us fully clothed in thick, gooey brown mud.     Well, we were already muddy, so why not have a mud slinging fight.  Oh, what fun!!  We were cloaked head to toe in a shell of quickly drying mud.   After all the fun, we traipsed up to the house were our parents were casually ‘relaxing'.  And then the fur began to fly!  I'm sure they thought we had walked out of a horror movie.     But then, horror of all horrors, we were carted off to the upstairs (main ballroom) bathroom, stripped down to the buff and forced into the same bath tub to be scrubbed down from the nitty gritty!  That was a most embarrassing moment as we were probably 9 and 10 at the time.  I'm sure we left a few pounds of lovely, squishy, sweet smelling mud and created an unforgettable memory.
